Purpose Statement: Make the pursuit of God and the advancement of His kingdom the central priority of our lives by being and making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Worship is intentionally Christ- and Word-centered. Hymns and choruses are blended to exalt Christ. A choir,
orchestra, instruments, and worship teams are utilized to help reinforce the theme of worship every Sunday.
The congregation is a vital participant in reading Scripture and singing...not just listening. The message
is an exposition of Scripture usually verse by verse. Study outlines and discussion questions are provided
for personal as well as specially formed discussion groups that meet throughout the week. Preaching the whole
counsel of God is our aim. Perhaps the following quote best articulates our effort to wed Word and Worship
together:
"Word and worship belong indissolubly to each other. All worship is an intelligent and loving response to the
revelation of God, because it is the adoration of his Name. Therefore, acceptable worship is impossible without
preaching. For preaching is making known the Name of the Lord, and worship is praising the Name of the Lord made
known. Far from being an alien intrusion into worship, the reading and preaching of the Word are actually
indispensable to it. The two cannot be divorced. Indeed, it is their unnatural divorce which accounts for the
low level of so much contemporary worship. Our worship is poor because our knowledge of God is poor, and our
knowledge of God is poor because our preaching is poor. But when the Word of God is expounded to its fullness,
and the congregation begins to glimpse the glory of the living God, they bow down in solemn awe and joyful wonder
before his throne, It is preaching which accomplishes this, the proclamation of the Word of God in the power of the
Holy Spirit of God. That is why preaching is unique and irreplaceable." - From "I Believe in Preaching" (London:
Hodder and Stoughton, 1982), p. 82
Teaching historical sound doctrine has become our passion. A generation has arisen that seeks biblical answers to
life's difficult issues. The children's as well as the youth's curriculum is intentionally designed to not only
give them invaluable teaching from biblical stories and books but also systematic theology. Coupled with caring
committed teachers makes this a valuable asset to families who want their children grounded in biblical truth so
they can withstand the onslaught of false teachings and temptations in the world. There are ministries for college
age, singles, young couples, seniors, as well as for men and women. Significant relationships and lasting
friendships arise out of this common pursuit of knowing God and His Word.
Contrary to what is often argued, believing in the doctrines of grace spurs this church into greater involvement
in the world around them. Missions is an ever expanding passion. Youth and adults are involved in world-wide
projects from Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe. Hispanic pastors and churches in Southern California are
a special focus of the pastor as he sees the growing opportunity set before us. "Growing through Discipleship",
therefore, is not just a clever slogan but an intentional way of life. A number of pastors and missionaries have
done their internship in this church. Other young people are preparing to go as well.
So, if you have the time, sit back and read about our church. Let us know if you have any questions. Our prayer
is that all who pass this way will find their joy in pursuing God's glory. We hope some of you will be able to
join us sometime near in the future.
His Glory! Our Joy!
Pastor Don Smith, Sr. Pastor
