Latest Correspondence from Dave & Judy Newquist
September 6, 2008
Dear Prayer Partners,
God bless you as the summer ends and everyone is getting back into routine.
This is a quick up-date on our August 7 email to you.
Thank you so much for the warm and prayerful response regarding the special
needs children's camp. It was interesting to see how many of our praying
friends have had some direct connection with special-needs children. God
answered your prayers in many ways. The parents gained a new understanding
of how God treasures their children. Several mothers prayed to ask Jesus to
be their own Savior and their source of love for their children. They were
amazed at the love shown their children by the Christian college young
people who served them one on one. "These students are so different!" they
said. "We have been to support groups where we gained knowledge about our
children's needs, but this time we received help for our own hearts!"
Regarding the camp director, praise God Linda (Su Ming) has been encouraged
to see that her sister, whose head was severely injured in an accident just
as the camp was beginning, is beginning to recover her rationality.
Linda and her daughter Judy (Hwei Syin), along with Linda's husband and a
special-needs teen-age boy, are on a trip to Malaysia. Su Ming has 33
meetings in this month, where she will be telling the story of God's
blessing on their family through His gift of their special-needs daughter,
Judy, who will be singing in the meetings. Please pray for God's special
protection and strength for them. A major national newspaper has announced
the schedule of their meetings!
After their return, on September 26, Su Ming and I will be working together
teaching a workshop for teachers of special-needs children at a nearby
teachers' college. I have three hours to lecture, and am quite concerned
about how to do it well in a secular setting. I'm supposed to talk about
how to love children...but how does one do that without talking about the
love of God? I'm sure I will do it anyway, but I will need God's wisdom to
know just how to do so appropriately.
Dave praises God for a spirit of unity in the August 11 meeting where
Tunghai leaders were planning for the increased spread of Christianity on
our campus. We've just had a great freshman welcome camp, and there will be
more activities next week to try to encourage the freshmen to join the
Christian fellowship groups. Please pray with us for these important
initial contacts, and for Dave as he begins classes.
We continue to have an opportunity to minister to the friend whose marriage
is in trouble. He and his wife have had such a key influence in the lives
of others, and they want to continue. We long to see reconciliation take
place for them.
Thank you for partnering with us in ministry here in Taiwan. You play a key
role here.
Love in Jesus,
Dave and Judy Newquist
